Singapore competitive edgeSingapore is perhaps the most strategically important global trading, finance and service hub in Asia. Its competitive advantage is derived from excellent infrastructure, a pro-business government and transparent policies. A well-diversified economy70% of Singapore's GDP is attributable to finance and services.1 The 1997 Asian financial crisis prompted greater emphasis toward diversification with pharmaceuticals and transport engineering being granted significant roles in the manufacturing sector to avoid an over reliance on electronics. The services and construction sectors have also become key drivers of growth, making Singapore more resilient to external shocks. Adding a bit of sparkle and buzzSingapore recently approved the development of two large casino resorts as part of a strategy to reduce the country's dependence on manufacturing and to position itself as a livelier tourist destination. According to projections, the resorts will lead to $4 billion in investments2, $3.5 billion in annual revenue, 35,000 jobs and $350 million per year in taxes and fees2. Consider investing in your home country and in your own future!
